Hi Folks,

Every one of us need a clean system to work on. However, most of the time we are working “ONLINE” and that means while you are accessing the net – your system is also available [Accessible] from anywhere! Sometimes, you do not know [or by accident] your reach or click on the URL, Email or Advertisement which might have Virus, Spyware, Malware, Trojan, Ransomware or anything…! It can steal your identity, damage or lock your files, track your keystrokes take complete control of your system.

Follow below Guide lines to keep your system clean and Virus free.

  1. Install an Antivirus Program. [Must]

The best way to keep the Virus away is to use Antivirus. There are more than 50 Antivirus companies which are trying to protect the world from bad guys. Keep in mind that Everyday there are plenty of new viruses are trying to reach you via internet and you need to keep your Antivirus up to date with program version and virus database else you will be in trouble even if you have the Antivirus installed. ANTIVIRUS WITH OLD SIGNATURES meaning NO ANTIVIRUS.

I prefer ESET – as it has most of the virus signatures, best features and the most important – it is not resource hungry.

  1. Keep your Windows updated. [Must]

With all due respect to windows team, since ages Windows has considered to be the easiest operating systems to attack and in many cases it has been proven too. Windows team is working hard on the security and releasing the security updates on Tuesday which needs to be installed in your system to keep is secured.

  1. Turn on User Account Control (UAC). [Must]

Virus/malware will try to make changes to your system and would like to have control over it. UAC can help to prevent unauthorized changes to your system, When UAC is enable, it will ask for your permission for any administrator level changes and you can deny if you are not sure what it is.

  1. Use a Firewall. [Must]

Firewall is a software program or hardware which protects our system from virus, spyware and other worms that try to reach to your computer. It try to protect against all the network attacks that could happen with your system.

ESET Smart Security (Home Users) or ESET Endpoint Security (Business User) has the advanced firewall module which help you to protect your system.

  1. Don’t open email attachments unless you’re expecting them. [Must]

I know we are so curious and greedy – sometimes. However Emails are the easiest way to reach to you and it does not require your permissions. But yes, it’s up to you that you click on it and welcome the problem or analyze before clicking on it.

Some emails might say that you won the lottery – hang on – without even buying a ticket? Can you believe it? Analyze every email subject line and do not date to click on it before confirming with the sender or mark that email as spam.

  1. Use a pop-up blocker with your browser.

You might have used annoying popups when you are browsing your favorite site. Have you observed why its popping up mostly those advertisement you must be interested in?

Let me explain:

When you browse any suspicious site – it might contain the Adware and spyware. Which track the browsing history and collect your details based on your GEO information. That details might be bought by many companies with good money. Next time when you access any site they may popup those advertise based on your interest and you might end up buying the thing that you do not want to.

It could be anything other than Adware – including Porn-ware (popups while watching online porn), Shop-ware (popups while doing online shopping), Deal-ware (Deal offering for more than 90% discount on any product) or anything.

You can be protected by using popup blockers on your favorite browsers as all browser makers are there to secure their users.

  1. Use your browser’s privacy settings.

Websites might use your private information which is important to you. Be aware when to share your private details and when to not. You can adjust your privacy setting in browser and save your identity and can cost you more than you expected.
